Welcome to the Goforth Baseball Family
My name is Ethan Goforth. I grew up in Blacksburg, Virginia, then went to college at Carson-Newman University where I played baseball for three years and got my degree in Exercise Science. Upon graduation, I was fortunate enough to be drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates and play for two and a half years. When my playing days were over, I began coaching in the organization, which I still do today.
Why Goforth Baseball?
Growing up I was extremely fortunate that my Dad educated himself about the game and sought out opportunities to take me to camps to learn from people with experience and knowledge to share. Even then, to get a catching specific camp, we had to drive at least 40 minutes and it was difficult to get on a consistent schedule.
My mission through this website is to eliminate that barrier for today's youth and high school players and coaches by providing opportunities to learn about the game and catching without having to travel far and wide to find it.
Catching and baseball as a whole are both so much more than just skills. So often we get wrapped up in lessons and how my swing is and we fail to really pay attention to the game itself. If the game is 90% mental as Yogi Berra said, then why aren't we learning about it more?
